Unemployment can be overwhelming for anyone – it is a difficult process and can often be discouraging. Youth Job Connection is a new initiative that is designed to help young people between the ages of 15 and 29 living in Markham who face multiple barriers to employment. Barriers may include youth that are discriminated, LGBTTQ, Aboriginal, living with mental health or disabilities, or recent immigrants. In addition youth may be facing some combination of other challenging life circumstances, including living in poverty, poor or lack of labour market experience, in conflict with the law, or low levels of education and literacy. Participants who are between 15-18 years old must be legally excused from attending high school which means either the individual has graduated or they are participating in a supervised alternative learning program.  YJC includes paid pre-employment workshops, job matching and placement support. Participants first complete 60 hours of pre-employment workshops which include topics such as resume writing, interview skills, customer service and more. After completing the workshops, participants will be supported by a 360°kids Job Developer with finding a paid employment opportunity. Specialized training required by placement employers such as First Aid/CPR, Smart Serve, WHMIS, Working at Heights, Security, etc. can be provided through program funding.

Note: there is a paid 60 hour (minimum) pre-employment training component to this program which is facilitated in Markham. Pre-employment must be completed before an employment opportunity can be provided.
