STEP Training
Specialized Training for Employment Program (STEP) provides training and supports to people with barriers to employment and who self-identify with a disability, focusing on mental health challenges.
Through one-on-one counselling and paid work placement opportunities, STEP has the potential to make a lasting impact toward sustainable employment for people.
STEP works with you
STEP works alongside individuals to support them with employment preparedness to achieve goals based on their needs and abilities. While people are in their placements, we are committed to offering ongoing job skills coaching in overcoming challenges in retaining long-term meaningful employment.
Mental Health Support
Through counselling referrals and mental health workshops, individuals receive resources to support them with navigating and managing their mental health.
STEP guides participants through employment certifications, such as Smart Serve, Food Handlers, WHMIS, Cannsell, and First Aid/CPR.
To be eligible, applicants must be:
- Ages 15 and up
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada and meet provincial requirements
- Have some type of legal income source to pay rent
- Resident of York Region
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Unemployed/underemployed
- Not enrolled in full-time school
- Have access to WIFI and a computer/laptop
