Q. What is Nightstop?

A.

Nightstop is a voluntary service for young people in crisis in York Region, providing a safe place to sleep in a community volunteer’s spare room (or Host Family as we call them). Hosts provide a hot meal, and a private bedroom for the youth for the night or more. Hosts are caring and compassionate and are there to provide a safe place to sleep for youth temporarily until 360°kids can find appropriate housing for the youth. All Hosts have been trained, approved and homes have been site checked for safety and security. Youth can be 16 to 26 years of age.

If you are a youth in need of temporary emergency housing, you may self-refer to 905-475-6694 then Press “6” or email: nightstop@360kids.ca

Q. How old do I have to be to live in a 360ºkids home?

A.

You must be 16 to 19 years of age, in need of temporary shelter and care, and are either in school fulltime or working full time. If you’re younger than 16, you must be a ward of the Children’s Aid Society.

Q. What can 360ºkids offer me?

A.

360ºkids can give you a home for up to a year, food, physical and emotional care, counselling, school support or help finding a job. We will work with you (and your parents) to sort out issues and to try to get you back home. If that is not possible, we will help you work towards living independently.

Q. What kind of counselling can I get?

A.

360ºkids works with youth just like you who are dealing with many issues. Whether your issues include self-harming behaviour, depression, anger, suicidal thoughts, learning disabilities, sexual abuse, low self-esteem or drug or alcohol dependency, you will find people who care and want to help you at 360ºkids. Our counsellors are trained professionals.

Q. What’s required of me if I live in a 360ºkids home?

A.

Staying in a 360ºkids home is voluntary. All youth in our residential programs must agree to participate in our programming (see above) because you need more than a roof over your head and food to be OK. We are here to help, but the key to your success is your willingness to help yourself.

Q. What are Outreach Services?

A.

Our Outreach Team can assist any youth 13 – 21 in York Region who is in need of support. Our Workers will spend time connecting with vulnerable youth who are not yet connected to 360°kids programs and other social and community services across the Region. The goal is to build relationships and refer them to services to meet their needs. Many of our referrals come from school guidance counsellors, teachers, and other services providers.

Q. I’ve been involved with a gang and I don’t know how to get out now.

A.

You’ve come to the right place. Gangs are neither just a big city or inner city problem, nor are they a problem of a particular race or culture. Our 360°kids L.E.G.I.T. (Leadership Engagement Gang Prevention Team) is here to help you safely exit the gang lifestyle and culture.

Q. I’ve heard that I can get my high school diploma through 360°kids?

A.

360°kids is proud of our partnership with the York Region District School Board that provides an onsite teacher (Mon – Fri through the school calendar year) at our Home Base Youth Drop-in in Richmond Hill, to offer an innovative model classroom to allow students to continue their education and work towards completion of their high school credits and diploma. If you think this program might be right for you, then please refer to our PROGRAMS AND SERVICES dropdown menu and select iGrad for more details on intake and referrals.
