I was a recent immigrant from China when I first joined the Youth Job Connection program. I relocated to Markham from Vancouver in the hopes of finding better employment opportunities and even left my husband and child behind while I was in search for a full-time job. My goal was to secure a new job and bring my family along to join me in my new life. At first, I was so nervous that my foreign accent would be a barrier to my success but the program staff and coach really helped me believe otherwise. I was able to become gainfully employed as a full-time Teacher’s Assistant at a daycare and much to my surprise, my employer was so pleased with my worth ethic and dedication! I thoroughly enjoyed my three month job placement and was hired on as a staff directly after. In the end, I was able to reunite with my child and family. I am so extremely grateful for the program and helping me get a jump start to building a new life in Markham.
