Housing
Every Bite Matters (EBM) is a 14 week paid employment program for youth who face barriers to employment and have interest to work in the food industry. With a robust delivery model providing hands on experience, EBM has the potential to make a lasting impact towards sustainable employment for youth who are seeking culinary skill development.
The first 3 weeks of EBM includes pre-employment workshops focused on job readiness and life skill development. Weeks 4 to 9 provide culinary focussed training and certifications, all paid at prevailing Ontario Minimum Wage. Participants are provided with certification opportunities such as Smart Serve, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR and Food Handlers, and training in employment and life skill topics such as budgeting, stress management, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, self-care and time management, financial literacy, and personal mental health management. While youth are in their employment placements, we provide ongoing support and coaching to assist them in overcoming challenges in retaining long- term meaningful employment.
All workshops follow a hybrid delivery approach where participation is mandatory between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.
- Monday/Friday in-person at the Richmond Hill HUB (10415 Yonge St)
- Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday online via Zoom
After the 9 weeks of workshops have been completed, participants will be provided the opportunity for a 5 week job placement.
Participants in EBM must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be between the ages of 15-30
- Are currently unemployed/under-employed and not in school
- Access to Wi-Fi and a laptop or computer
